Paradise Found: Our Ladies' Escape to Naia Resort & Spa, Belize

April 26, 20266 min read

Some destinations you stumble into. Belize, we walked into wide-eyed and completely unprepared for just how beautiful it would all be. Three business women, one trip, and zero regrets, our ladies' getaway to Naia Resort & Spa turned out to be exactly the kind of escape we needed. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was going to be a trip we'd be talking about.

We'd barely sat down in the reception of the resort and our bags were taken to our rooms. We were offered a welcome drink that was beautifully presented, and had the perfect refreshing first taste especially with a side of rum. After check-in, the team at Naia walked us through a tour of the property, weaving us through lush pathways to our villas on a golf cart. It's the kind of place that tells a story the moment you arrive: a collection of intimate, bungalows nestled between the jungle and the Caribbean Sea. It sung tranquility immediately. To top off our property tour each of us were given a tour our bungalow…….

Night One: Settling In Over Dinner

Our first evening was exactly what a first evening should be…. unhurried. We dined at the resort 1981 restaurant. The food was outstanding, so fresh and flavorful….. plus with the great company it was a wonderful realization that we were truly, blissfully away.

Day Two: The Hard Life — Beach & Pool

Our second day was one for the books, and by the books, we mean the ones we brought along and never opened. We spent the day alternating between the white sand beach and the pool, moving only when we needed a change of scenery or a fresh drink. Hard life, honestly. No complaints from any of us.

What we did notice during this restful day was that the resort was constantly being groomed throughout the day. The resort takes pride in making sure nothing goes untouched on the grounds, on the beach, at the.pool and in the restaurants. Their staff are truly amazing.

That evening, we traded our loungers for something a little more special. We made our way to one of the more popular restaurants in Placencia called Mariposa. It’s a signature restaurant, announced by a stunning mural of a great butterfly at the entrance. It set the tone perfectly. On the menu: pan-seared fish served over a velvety sweet potato and plantain mash, finished with lemongrass vegetables that were fragrant and light. It was one of those meals where you stop mid-bite just to appreciate it. The kind of dinner that a girls' trip deserves.

Saturday: Mayan Ruins & a Cacao Farm

Saturday was the day Belize really opened up for us. The rain poured and stopped as we drove through the countryside toward the Mayan ruins of Nim Li Punit. Our guide Carlos gave us a private tour of the entire ruins. It had that feeling of a place where history isn't behind a glass case but it was right beneath your feet, in the stones, in the silence. Standing atop a pyramid with the jungle stretching endlessly in every direction was a moment that lodged itself permanently in all of our memories. Kings once lived here and were buried there too. As you can imagine we took far too many photos and had absolutely no shame about it.

From there, we made our way to a local cacao farm, a visit that turned out to be far more fascinating than any of us expected. We learned about the entire journey of cacao: from the pods growing on the trees, through the fermentation and drying process, right through to how it becomes chocolate. Walking through the farm, having a chocolate tasting session of all the chocolate they made was fascinating. Learning the craft from the people who live it every day and only produce it for the country was the kind of experience you simply can't manufacture. To top of this tour we got to sample local food which was chocolate chicken with vegetables, plantains and rice. Delicious. A definite highlight of the trip.

The Last Day: Rain, Rest & Reflection

Our final day greeted us with rain steady, tropical, and entirely forgivable. Rather than fight it, we leaned in. We stayed close to the resort, lounged, laughed, and relaxed. Some of the best travel moments happen when the plans fall away and you're simply left in a beautiful place, together and unhurried. And honestly perfect ending. To top off our final night on the trip we experienced Maya Beach restaurant. A word of warning: be careful of what you order. The pork chop was bigger than the plate. However, it was very juicy and flavorful with a cacao rub. Yes, chocolate is everywhere!
